Hibiscus Cafe closes suddenly in Kensington

Vegan and gluten free spot beloved for its crepes, soups and massive salads shuts down after 12 years.

Another Kensington business has closed its doors: Hibiscus Cafe, a long-running vegan spot home to one of Toronto’s finest bowls of soup, shut down last week after 12 years on Augusta.

“The time has come for us to close this beautiful chapter and move on. Thank you for your patronage throughout many years,” the cafe’s owners wrote on social media.

Welcome to our Hibiscus Cafe friendly, family-run vegetarian café, a place where buckwheat crêpes are fresh and delicious, soups and salads are rich and filling, and everything is gluten-free.

Not too hungry? Try our famous homemade dairy-free ice cream in a gluten-free cone–’cause, honestly, this is not something you want to miss!

A bevy of gluten-free, vegan cookies, squares and brownies are on hand to satisfy your sweet cravings.

“Hibiscus Cafe has an awesome vegan brunch. Chocolate crepes with banana are scrumptious. Also yummy tomato vegan mozzarella with basil, avocado and cucumbers! Excellent ginger squash soup and too die for chocolate fudge brownie!! In trendy Kensington market hood on Augusta.”
